Signs of Cancer in Dogs and Cats
It isn’t always easy to tell if your pet has cancer, especially when the clinical signs can point to a variety of possible conditions. Regardless, if you notice any of these abnormalities in your pet, don’t hesitate to bring them to our attention.
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Not interested in exercise or playtime
- Ongoing lameness and/or stiffness
- Unusual swellings that keep growing
- Sores that won’t heal
- Trouble eating/swallowing
Can Chemotherapy Make My Pet Sick?
Chemotherapy for dogs and cats does not cause the harmful effects that humans typically experience when receiving chemotherapy treatment. While there are side effects, pets generally tolerate them quite well and return to feeling normal within 24-48 hours.
Common Chemotherapy Side Effects in Dogs and Cats
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Decreased appetite
- Decrease in white blood cells
- Hair loss and slow hair regrowth (more common in Poodles, Shih Tzus, Maltese, Bichon Frise, and Lhasa Apso)
